TAG to remember artistes of yesteryears.
Every month Tiatr Academy of Goa organises a special programme, “Somplolea Tiatristancho Ugddas” to remember the late Tiatr artistes and their contribution in the field of tiatr who were born in a particular month and are no more with us today. The artistes born in the month of September and are not living who will be remembered are:
1. Khada Minguel
Hailing from Durga - Chinchinnim, Khada Minguel was a renowned Mestri. In those days, no other Mestri was as popular as Khadda Minguel. He spread Fell/Khell not only in Salcete but all over Goa. He was rightly called as ‘Khellancho Raza’.
2. Seby Coutinho
Seby Coutinho was a very talented and a versatile actor, one who studied his roles thoroughly and brought out the exact nature of his character especially in tragic roles. His best roles, as judged by the people were in ‘Khorkhos Ostori’,‘Angounnechi Okol’, ‘Vavraddi’, ‘Atam Konn Ghatki’ and ‘Barabas’.
3. Philomena Braz
Philomena Braz was a fine character actress and a singer. Philomena was first seen on the Konkani stage in Alfred Rose’s‘Zotkari Dorji’ in 1963. She acted in Tiatrs of many directors including Saib Rocha, J.P.Souzalin, Kid Boxer, Prem Kumar, Jacinto Vaz, C. Alvares, Dod de Verna, Nelson Afonso, Kamat de Assolna, etc.
A versatile actor, director and singer. He excelled in comedy roles. He has produced many audio albums.
5. Prem Kumar
A versatile actor-director. Prem Kumar was also a fine composer of songs. He also brought innovations on the Konkani stage, viz, Novelties in the type of stages he used. For example ‘Jack-Knife-Stage’, Revolving Stage, Half Slider Stage, etc. He has written more than 50 tiatrs. His popular ones include 1) Vavradi 2) Rinn 3) Dukh 4) Kakut 5) Jivit Ek Sopon, etc. Prem Kumar has also produced a Konkani film,’Boglant’.
6. Remmie Colaco
Composer of more than 500 songs. Some of his memorable hits like ‘Ankvar Morienchem Dukh’ are regularly broadcast over All India Radio. Remmie has recorded many songs on HMV Records and has also produced an Audio cassette of his songs. He was also a very good playwright and a Director. His famous tiatrs include ‘Satvo Sacrament’, ‘Bhauponnancho Kaido’, ‘Chouto Mandament’, etc.
7. Rosalia Rodrigues
Coming from a family with deep roots in tiatr, Rosalia stepped on tiatr stage in her early childhood. She won ‘Best Actress Award’ in Tiatr Competitions organised by Kala Academy for three consecutive years. She was a good singer too. Last seen acting in Sammy Tavares’ tiatr, ‘Aplea Bhurgeam Sangatak’ and Junior Reagan’s ‘Teacher’ before her untimely demise at a very young age.
This programme will be held on Monday, 21st September 2015 at 4:00 p.m. at Conference Hall, Tiatr Academy of Goa, 2ndFloor, Campal Trade Centre, Panaji Goa. A veteran tiatr personality Josephina Dias and a well-known Konkani writer Alvaro Gomes will speak on the lives of these late artistes. All tiatr lovers are requested to attend this programme.
