Socorro de St. Cruz enthralls the audience

A well-known singer and tiatr personality, Socorro de St. Cruz enthralled the audience with his beautiful voice at TAG’s monthly programme ‘Meet the Artiste’ held on 23rd September 2015 at the Conference Hall of Tiatr Academy of Goa, Campal, Panaji Goa.

Shri. Agostinho Temudo, President of TAG welcomed Socorro, the artiste of the month and the audience.

Socorro de St. Cruz spoke about his life journey in the tiatr field for the last 33 years as a singer, actor, composer, lyricist and director. His sweet and melodious voice captured the hearts of his fans and the audience who had gathered in large numbers.

He started his career on the tiatr stage at a very young age and his idol was Alfred Rose. In his speech he told the audience that it was his dream to sing with Alfred Rose which has been fulfilled when he sang a trio along with Alfred Rose and Aniceto. He recalled that Alfred Rose congratulated him for writing that trio. In all he wrote around 700 Konkani songs on different issues in his career and has to his credit around 23 audio albums and 8 VCDs.

Shri. Tomazinho Cardozo congratulated Socorro de St. Cruz for his contribution in producing an audio album on patriotic songs. His audio album ‘Natalamcho Kusvas’ was adjudged the Best  Audio Album of the year at Konkani Song & Music Awards 2012 organized by Tiatr Academy of Goa.

His other two compatriots Aniceto Lourenco and Albert Cabral accompanied him to sing his one of the most famous compositions ‘Maim’. Aniceto also joined him in rendering his latest composition paying tributes to our most loved President late Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam which the audience appreciated. On public demand, he also sang a comedy song which he had sung for the first time on stage. Shri. Agnelo Furtado accompanied them on guitar.

He also remembered his late father who was a musician and now he also started learning to play trumpet. He played two numbers on his trumpet mesmerizing the audience.

Shri. William Fernandes, Vice President of TAG proposed a vote of thanks and also presented a memento to Socorro de St. Cruz as a remembrance of the day in the presence of Member Secretary Shri. Jose Alexandre Rodrigues. Jess Luz compered the function.

Prominent among those present were Jessie Dias, Brazinho Soares, Tomazinho & Irene Cardozo, Premanand Lotlikar, C. D’Silva, Dr. Andre Rafael Fernandes, Peter Barbosa, Alfi de Divar, Fr. Pratap Naik, sj, Comedian Mathew, Alvaro Gomes, Maria Cardozo, Cristina Vaz, etc.
