His maternal uncle, late Joao Fernandes would pen and stage folk plays (zomnivhele fell), while noted tiatrist, late Remmie Colaco, was his close and immediate neighbour.“Uncle Remmie would gather all the tiatrists at his residence for practice of tiatrs,” informed William, “and as we would be there, he would ask us to recite poems and sing songs.” “It was a pleasure to be associated with such a great tiatr personality, who was down-to-earth with everyone,” he added.“Remmie would take me along with him for tiatrs, wherever they were staged,” recalls Willy. “It was travelling by the local transport from Sanvordem to Margao and then proceed for the show by the hired vehicle. In 1975, he penned and staged his first tiatr ‘Jivem Moronn’ at Sanvordem, with Remmie Colaco and M Boyer being part of the troupe and Cajetan de Sanvordem, Anthony San, Angela Morais, late Salvador and Menino Fernandes as co-artistes.In 1976 Willy staged another tiatr ‘Guneanv Konnacho’, besides musical plays ’Konn Nam Konnacho’ and ‘Tumcheach Pasot Kortanv’ on All India Radio (AIR) in 1977. He has acted for most of the top directors and writers in the tiatr field which include Rosario Rodrigues, M Boyer, Remmie Colaco, H Britton, Jacinto Vaz, Anil Kumar, Rosario Dias. Service in the accounts department at Quepem district office does not permit Luiza to stay fully committed to the Konkani stage along with her husband. On account of the pandemic, tiatrs have come to a standstill, thus affecting majority of the tiatrists and their livelihood. “As tourism and other public sectors have already been thrown open, the government should also find an alternative for the tiatrists and live entertainment on the tiatr stage,” says Willy. “TAG should also be made fully alive and active with the appointment of the new president and committee so that various schemes could be made functional again,” he addedMonday, December 7, 2015

Mini Mario - at TAG’s ‘Meet the Artiste’
Mini Mario expresses his obsession for tiatr at TAG’s ‘Meet the Artiste’
Mini Mario with his melodious voice kept the tiatr lovers and his fans spellbound at the ‘Meet the Artiste’ programme organized by Tiatr Academy of Goa at the Black Box, Ravindra Bhavan, Margao on 29th October, 2015. The President of TAG Shri. Agostino Temudo while welcoming the gathering recollected that he first saw Mini Mario as a child artiste who later on grew up to emerge as one of the most sought actors of the Konkani stage and that he always appreciated his acting and singing talent.
In his address, Mini Mario whose real name is Evaristo Minino Mariano Da Silva recalled his childhood days when he started on the Konkani stage as a child artiste. He spoke about his struggles during the earlier years as he had to go to school during the daytime and act on the stage during the nights. His Principal had warned him at the time to either study or go to act on the stage. Having no other alternative, he told the packed house audience that he opted for the tiatr stage, a decision which he is not regretting today. Some persons in the audience quizzed him on various issues about his career whom he promptly answered which came right from his heart. One person in the audience requested him to sing one of his old song. Since he could not remember its tune or lyrics, he requested that person to say a few lines and also the tune of that song so that he can recollect the song. When reminded, he rendered some lines of that song. This showed the large following he has among the tiatr lovers. Mini Mario then went on to render two of his popular songs which he had composed by himself. He remembered and thanked his father who insisted that he should compose his own songs instead of singing songs composed by others.
Further he also acknowledged the support he got and still receives from his wife and children. He thanked the audience for showing him so much love and affection by attending this function in large numbers. Lastly, he thanked the TAG for recognizing his contribution to Tiatr stage by organizing this function.
Present at the gathering were Shri. Premanand Lotlikar, President of Dalgado Konknni Akademi, well-known tiatrist and directors Minino de Bandar, C D’Silva, A.M Pacheco, Wilma Pacheco, Michael Gracias, etc. The Vice President of TAG Shri. TAG to publish Tiatr literature
TAG TO PUBLISH TIATR LITERATURE
Tiatr Academy of Goa will implement its scheme ‘Preservation of Tiatr Literature’ so that the literature of tiatr such as scripts of tiatr and lyrics of Kantaram are published in the book form and preserved for posterity.
TAG has observed that hundreds of tiatr scripts and thousands of lyrics of kantaram are written by tiatr artistes but unfortunately the same are not published in book form.
Therefore Tiatr Academy request all the tiatr artistes, veterans as well as the ones who are active on the tiatr stage to submit the manuscripts of their tiatrs and lyrics of their kantaram to TAG so that TAG will publish them in book form and preserve this work for future generation.
As per the TAG’s ‘Preservation of Tiatr Literature’ scheme TAG will pay reasonable remuneration to the writers for permitting TAG to publish it in book form.
